Join Pam Mayhew at the Rose House Museum – the gem of Waupoos – a simple yet charming farmhouse built in the early 1800s in a gorgeous pastoral setting for a full day plein air painting workshop set against the beautiful and historic backdrop of Prince Edward County.  Designed for beginner to intermediate artists, this immersive experience invites you to step into the landscape and paint just as the early Canadian impressionists once did – outdoors, surrounded by nature, light and history.

Working in oil we will explore form, observation of light and colour together and paint in a quick impressionistic mode. Instruction will include demonstrations, group discussion and one on one guidance tailored to your level.  Our brushes will dance.

It will be fun day outside and on the front porch if necessary. Together we will observe and create marvelous sketches that are complete on their own or can be made into larger paintings.

All registered students are invited to join us the next day for a Plein Air Happening where you can continue to explore and navigate this fun.

Tea and Coffee supplied.

Bio

Pam Mayhew is a Canadian artist known for her lively abstractions that feature bold, gestural brushstrokes and a joyful palette. Current works allude to land and waterscapes of both Ontario and Newfoundland while abstracting the image to allow the viewer room to interpret the compositions according to their own life experiences.

Pam grew up in Ottawa with a family of artists and art collectors. Life in a creative household nurtured her talent and appreciation for art and design, while summers spent in sunny Okanagan, B.C. cultivated appreciation for the light, colour, and beauty of the Canadian landscape. While there, Pam experienced a powerful sense of ‘place’ that she strives to convey in her work.
Mayhew’s studies include the University of Ottawa (BFA Painting and Art History), University of Victoria (MFA Art Education), and formal interior design training at the International Academy of Design (Toronto) and Sotheby’s, (London). During her training, she studied under one of Canada’s most important painters, Kenneth Lochhead, OC, with inspiration from acclaimed Quebec abstractionists Yves Gaucher and Charles Gagnon.
