About First United Church

First United Church is a welcoming community located in the heart of Uptown Waterloo. You can find the church at 16 William Street West, just a short walk from the city center. The congregation gathers every Sunday at 10:30 in the morning for worship, and services are available both in person and online. This church is part of the United Church of Canada and is known for being inclusive and affirming of all people. The building itself has a long history. It was first built in 1890 by the St James Methodist congregation. In 1926, the members of St Paul's Presbyterian and St James Methodist came together to form what is now First United Church. Today, the church continues to serve people of all ages and backgrounds through prayer, outreach, music, and a wide range of events. First United is more than a place to attend Sunday service. It hosts concerts, community meals, craft shows, and educational programs throughout the year. The team of staff and volunteers work hard to make everyone feel welcome.
