Music on the Move began as a Truckload of Soul in 2020, when musician Kevin Burt approached Summer of the Arts about bringing live music to neighborhoods in the midst of a pandemic. In the back of a pickup truck, he played his guitar for some much-needed sound! The idea went over so well that Summer of the Arts decided to bring back the concept in 2021 as Music on the Move.

Summer of the Arts continues to partner with Iowa City’s Parks and Recreation Department to bring music to the neighborhoods every week during June, July, and August!

Dates: Wednesdays, June 10 – August 26, 2026.
Time: 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. (approximate).
Location: Neighborhood parks (e.g., City Park, Mercer Park, Terry Trueblood) and locations like PinSeekers and Emma J. Harvat Square.
Cost: Free.
